Experience Yoga in Nature.
There is little like feeling a mild breeze encouraging you to take your next inhale and birdsong that is not from tape. Of course this can only be enjoyed half the year – as long as Pranayama is not mastered, that is – but that does not mean, it should be missed! Meet me in private or in a group and let’s take to the woods or meet in your garden. Instead of focusing on a lack of technical props, we open our pereption to what we already have. Nature offers all the support we need, if we know to utilize what we find in a respectful way.
This guarantees a wonderful experience for all involved.
See for example, how a tree becomes the support you need, if you are insecure about balancing a headstand. A stump can be your elevation in meditation, giving you a firm ground and a defined space, or it can serve as a block to offer you elevation for your hands, if your hamstrings don’t yet allow for the full expression of forward folds. No gym floor is as soft as a forest ground, so falling is less of a concern in trying out the more trying postures. On the other hand, walkways and little clearings offer a firm and even ground for all poses where this is important.
The most important aspect of taking Yoga outside however, is the ease with which one focuses on the breath when in the open air. As Pranayama is the next step after Asana, this could be interpreted as Yoga outside helping you advance in your practice 😉
A the moment I am regularily enjoying the scenery around Kyvatnet for the Norwegian Version of “taking a swim and doing your practice on the beach”. With our northern temperatures that almost automatically includes Pranayama 😉
